Calendar Week 4
The fertilized egg will implant in your uterus this week.
This egg is called a blastocyst and it measures 0.1-0.2 mm in diameter. Your babies sex and other characteristics have already been determined
Calendar Week 5
Your baby is about 1.5 to 2.5mm long. All major organs are in the early stages of development at week 5.
Calendar Week 6
Your baby is now 8mm long. Organs, like the kidney and the liver, continue to develop. The baby’s eyes are forming and the heart begins to beat! About 6 weeks
6 Weeks Pregnantafter the first day of you last menstrual period cycle is when the fetal heart beat can be seen on a sonogram for the first time on a sonogram for the first time. It is shown as little flashing dot on the (sonogram) screen.

Calendar Week 7
Your baby will be about 9 mm by the end of this week. The heart has been divided into right and left chambers
Calendar Week 8
During the 8th week, your baby is at 0.61 inch (15 mm) in length about the size of a cherry. The eyes, ears, and nose continue to develop.
Calendar Week 9
Your baby’s size increased to 0.9 inch (19 mm) this week. All of your
baby’s major organs, muscles, nerves, as well as testes and ovaries, have now been formed.
Your baby already has elbows; fingers and toes begin to form. Your baby is now moving around, but you probably will not feel the movement just yet.
Calendar Week 10
The baby weighs about 0.14 ounce (4 grams) and is 1.22 inch (27 to 35 mm) long.
The eyelids are starting to fuse, and will continue to until the weeks 25 to 27.
The ears and upper lip are fully formed and external genitalia are in early stages of development. Your baby enters its fetal period at the end of this week.
Calendar Week 11
Your baby’s weight doubles to about 0.25 ounce (8 grams) by the end of the 11th
week. The baby’s head is about half the size of the body now.
The iris, as well as the fingernails, will begin to develop this week. All the major organs are completely formed.
Calendar Week 12
This is a special week for both you and your baby. At this month’s checkup is
usually when you will hear your baby’s heartbeat for the first time. Your baby is about 2.2 inches long (5.4 cm) and weighs 0.5 ounce (14 grams).
Fingernails are continuing to grow and the hands are now completely formed.

Calendar Week 13
At this time, your baby weighs approximately 0.8 ounce (28 grams) and about 3 inches (7.5 cm) long. The placenta is growing and weighs about 28 grams or one
ounce. Your baby looks like a tiny human at week 13. The baby’s head is still about half the size of the body, but will proportionately even out to about ¼ of the body size by birth.
The baby’s intestines have been developing in the umbilical cord up until this point. The intestines will now be moving to the baby’s abdomen. Also, your baby’s vocal cords begin developing.
Calendar Week 14
Your baby reaches the size of 3.5-4 inches (8.7cm) this week. The baby’s neck is getting longer and stronger. If you do an ultrasound this week, you can see your baby sucking his or her thumb!
Calendar Week 15
Your baby will attain a weight of weight of about 2.5 ounces (70 grams). The baby’s skin is very thin, and blood vessels can be seen through. Fine hairs, which are
called lanugos, cover the skin but fall out before the baby is born. Some babies are born with these fine fuzzy hairs on their body, but will eventually shed.
Calendar Week 16
Your baby is now moving around in the amniotic fluid. Week 16 is usually a
momentous week for most women. You might begin to feel your baby move this week (this is referred to as Quickening).
Most women describe this feeling as butterflies, bubbles, gas. If this is your first pregnancy, however, you should expect to feel your baby move at about 18-20 weeks.
Calendar Week 17
Your baby weighs about 3.5 ounces (100gm) and is about 5 inches (13cm) long.
Your baby will start to develop fat layers this week. Body fat will make up about two thirds of the total body weight by the time your baby is born.
Calendar Week 18
Your baby continues to grow reaching the size of about 5.5 inches (14cm). If this is
your first pregnancy, you might start feeling the baby move this week. Most women describe this feeling as butterflies, bubbles, gas.
Calendar Week 19
Measuring from head to toe, your baby is about 9 inches long now and weighs
about 8 ounces (240gm). Permanent teeth buds begin to form while milk teeth buds have already formed.
Calendar Week 20
As your baby reaches the weight of 10 ounces (300gm) at the 20th week, a white,
greasy substance called vernix begins to form. It protects the baby from amniotic fluid. In girl babies, the uterus completely forms this week, the vagina begins its development process. At this time, the girl baby has about seven million eggs.
Calendar Week 21
During the 21st week, you continue to feel your baby’s moves and kicks as the baby
still has lots of room to move around in your amniotic fluid. Your baby is about seven inches long and weighs about 12 ounces (360gm).
Calendar Week 22
Your baby keeps growing and this week will reach a weight of almo
st 1 pound d(430gm) and is about 12 inches (30cm) long. Eyebrow
s and eyelashes form.
Calendar Week 23
The baby weighs about 15 ounces (500gm) this week. In the next few weeks, your
baby’s weight will double. The baby’s fingernails are almost formed now.
Calendar Week 24
At week 24, your baby weighs about one pound and six ounces (600gm). In cases of premature births, Babies born during this time have about a five to twenty
percent chance of survival. The rate increases to seventy percent, when babies reach the weight of two pounds.
Calendar Week 25
As you begin the 25th week of your pregnancy, your baby weight is at one pound and nine ounces (660gm) and is about 13.5 inches (35cm) long. This is also a time when you and your partner might want to start singing and reading aloud. Your
baby now hears well and will react to certain loud noises. He or she is also beginning to practice breathing (the amniotic fluid) And you might feel your baby’s hiccups.
Calendar Week 26
Your baby’s eyes begin to open during week 26 will now be able to see. By looking through the mother’s stomach, he or she will now know if it’s light or dark try
pointing a flashlight at your stomach and see if or how your baby reacts to the light. You might feel a kick.
Calendar Week 27
Babies are most active between weeks 24 and 28. They are still relatively small,
weighing 2 pounds (860gm), and have plenty of room to move around in the amniotic fluid. Your baby can also respond to touch now.
Calendar Week 28
Your baby’s eyelashes are developing this week. At week 28, the baby weight 2.5 pounds (1153gm) and is about 16 inches (41cm) long. He or she is fully formed

Calendar Week 29
There is now little room for the baby to move around your uterus, as they reach the weight of two pounds nine ounces. The baby is now forming white fat which serves
as an energy source. The kicks from the knees and elbows will feel different and will be much stronger than before.
Calendar Week 30
The baby begins to regulate his or her own body temperature around the 30th
week. Your baby’s bone marrow begins to produce red blood cells. The lanugo (fine hair covering your baby’s body) slowly starts to disappear. Your baby’s weight is about 3 pounds (1320gm).
Calendar Week 31
At week 31, your baby is almost 18 inches (46cm) in length and weighs about three
pounds and five ounces (1500gm). Your baby’s iris becomes more sensitive to light and dark. Most of your baby’s body systems are fully developed.
Calendar Week 32
Your little one weighs about 4 pounds (1705gm) this week and is almost 19 inches (48cm) long. Since there is not much space for the baby to move around, you will
feel the baby’s movement less often.
Calendar Week 33
The baby’s own immune system is now developed and it will work to protect them
from any infections. Their weight is now about 4.5 pounds (1930 gm).
Calendar Week 34
During this stage of their development, the baby urinates almost a pint a day. For
baby boys, testicles will have descended into the scrotum. At this time your baby is twenty inches and weighs 5 pounds.
Calendar Week 35
At week 35, your baby’s length is about 20.25 inches (50cm) and the weight is at
about 5.5 pounds (2380gm).
Calendar Week 36
The baby’s brain is growing at a fast pace. The skull, bones and cartilage remain
soft, and will allow a smooth journey through the birth canal.
Calendar Week 37
Only about three weeks remaining until you see your little one! The baby is at 6.5
pounds (2870 gm) and 21 inches (52.5cm). He or she practices breathing, swallowing, and sucking.
Calendar Week 38
At week 38, your baby will be considered full term now if born. The lungs become
more mature and will allow the baby to breathe air on his/her own. Lanugo and vernix continue to shed from your baby’s body.
Calendar Week 39
Your baby is ready to face the world. He or she weighs approximately 7 pounds
(3290gm), and is about 21.5 inches (53.7cm) long. The baby’s fingernails may be long and might need a trim when born. Most of lanugo has fallen from your baby’s body.
Calendar Week 40
Nine months has passed and you are finally here! Born this week, your baby will be
about 7.5 pounds (3460 gm), and about 22 inches (55cm) long. Most of the babies will be in a head down position. Enjoy the wonderful journey as a parent!

The baby is still in there? Don’t worry, it means that your baby is very comfortable
in your tummy and is not ready to get out just yet. On average, first time moms will go four days past the due date.
